7 Ways How to Save Money Warming Up Your Home in Winter

Electric consumption surges up during winter. It's because you need to put on the heating system everyday to keep you warm and comfortable during the winter season. There are things you could do to cut up the cost of your electric bills. Some are simple and uncomplicated, but for some you might still need the help of your technician.

Here are 7 simple tips to keep your home warm for little or no extra cost.

1. Use thick curtains

Thick curtains can help warm your home during winter especially at night. It could block the cold air that could still seep in through window panels and door sidings. When night comes, spread out your curtain to cover each of the entire window and those on your doors, if any.

2. Let the sunlight in during the day

Using thick curtains during winter can be a source of additional heat at night. But, during the day, open them so that the warmth outside could pass through your window panes. Take advantage of the heat and light that come from the sun. It’s always free!

3. Replace old boiler

If you are using your boiler for more than 10 years already, it’s time to replace it with a new one. New models have features that are more energy efficient. It can warm your place with the same amount of heat but with less energy consumption.

3. Bleed your radiators

When you noticed that your central heating system is not giving enough heat to warm your home, you can check the radiator. Try bleeding it. Air bubbles inside the system prevent hot water from circulating properly, thus, warming your home takes longer than usual. Contact your technician if you don't know how to do this.

To prevent breakdown of boiler, you can turn it on once a month for a few minutes even when it’s not winter. This way, you will not be caught off-guard that your boiler has trouble functioning when you need it the most come winter. A simple maintenance like this one could save you money in the long run.

5.Turn down the thermostat

The simplest way to save on your heating is just to stop overheating your house. For example, you definitely don’t need the heating when you are doing a home workout or when you are cleaning up your house. Or once you are accustomed to the cold weather, you can slowly decrease the temperature one day at a time, up to the level that is still comfortable for you.

6. Move your furniture

It might look beautiful to have your furniture in front of the radiator, but it could absorb the heat that’s meant to warm your home. Move it away from the radiator, so hot air can circulate freely and keep your house warm.

7.Use thermostatic radiator valves

Thermostatic radiator allows you to program your heating to come on at predefined times – so you only use energy when you need it the most. When you go to your work during the day and nobody is left inside the house, you can set it to low temperature, and increase it by the time you come home.
